HIST | Stylish Prose about Contemporary Issues

2015 Fall | Fall 2015

Michael Nylan & Nicholas Constantino, Department of History

Offered in conjunction with the Fall 2015 Big Ideas Course “The Humanities” (L&S 23).

What is the relationship between religion and secularism? How is history taught in the US and internationally? How do we talk about violence in the criminal justice system and against women? In this course, students will learn to write about these and other pressing issues in the humanities with clarity and style. They will examine the process through which writers craft engaging prose by gradually structuring and refining their thoughts into clear and forceful finished products.
