This course introduces students to the intersections between the body and inequalities in the social and natural environment through classic, contemporary and theoretically-informed readings.
Readings, discussions, and writing assignments explore topics such as social ecology, structural violence, healing and caring, as well as resistance to inequalities in the social and natural environment and in health.
Throughout the semester, students use ethnographic methods to conduct field research on a topic of their choice related to social inequalities and the body. The topic is explored through multiple angles and through multiple genres of writing.
