IB 101 | Introduction to Scientific Writing

2019 Spring

Isaac Marck

This course will introduce students to concepts and techniques for effective communication of scientific findings, both within the scientific community and to the general public. Emphasis will be put on establishing a supportive and collaborative atmosphere among participating students. Students will learn to express themselves in a variety of formats, including systematic natural history observations in field journals, scientific reports, popular science, and advocacy pieces. The class will include experiential and inquiry-based learning. Students will be expected to attend three weekend field trips over the course of the semester where they will record observations, develop questions, conduct research and work collaboratively to produce written work suitable for publication.
